Fort Massac State Park is Illinois’ First Designated State Park. The nearly 1,500-acre park is perfect for picnics, camping, hiking, fishing, boating, and seasonal hunting programs. The park also has an 18-hole disc golf course. The site is also the host of the Fort Massac Grand Encampment, one of IL’s top historical tourism events, the 3rd weekend of each October.

The 8.7 mile trail begins at the Superman Statue, winds through the city streets and then through the historic and natural areas inside Ft. Massac State Park. Kincaid Mounds State Historic Site is a nationally significant Native-American archaeological treasure. From about 800 AD to 1500 AD it was the ‘capital’ of a chiefdom that stretched from Brookport to Hamletsburg along the Ohio River. Today, the mounds still exist and a constructed overlook platform and interpretive panels tell the story of the significant contribution and historical value of the Native American culture.

Illinois Department of Natural Resources Mermet Lake Fish & Wildlife Area is a 2680 acre wildlife area where game and nongame species can be observed in their natural environment. The wildlife area has two walking trails, one ADA accessible. Although its primary focus is wildlife/waterfowl, special events can be held on property.

Always Open except closed mid-November to early February for waterfowl season.

Mermet Springs is a full service dive site and scuba training facility centered in 8 1/2 acres of water in an abandoned stone quarry. Offering dives from 15-120 feet, the springs also has numerous sunken treasures to explore, including the jet airplane from the movie “US Marshals.”
